Bent County Jail Overview
Bent County Jail is operated by the Bent County Sheriff's Office at 11100 County Road GG.5, Las Animas, CO 81054. It is the primary facility page for Kiowa County inmate-population work because Kiowa County does not operate a jail and Bent County Jail names the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office as one of the agencies using the facility. Jail custody, inmate lookup, inmate money, visitation, mail, and release questions should go to Bent County Jail when the person is held there.
The jail is a regional and contract county jail. It houses male and female detainees from minimum-security population through maximum/segregation. Published user agencies include Bent County Sheriff's Office, Otero County Sheriff's Office, La Junta Police Department, Kiowa County Sheriff's Office, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Colorado Department of Corrections backlog inmates, and Colorado Parole. Because those agencies share the same facility, the Bent County Jail population is not a Kiowa-only count.
The manifest image from the Bent County Jail homepage shows the official capacity and custody-level framing used for this facility.
The homepage evidence supports treating Bent County Jail as the live facility source for Kiowa County detainees who are held there.
Bent County Jail Capacity
Bent County Jail publishes a current capacity of 94 inmates. The jail's history page says the building was constructed in 1999-2000 to replace the 1902 jail next to the Bent County Courthouse. It opened in 2000 with an original 46-inmate capacity and expanded to 94 beds in 2020. No current daily population or Kiowa-only average daily population was located in official sources during the June 1, 2026 research check, partly because the inmate-info feed was down.
| Measure | Published Value | Use for Kiowa County |
|---|---|---|
| Kiowa County-operated jail capacity | 0 / no local jail | Kiowa Sheriff's Office states the county does not operate a jail. |
| Bent County Jail capacity | 94 inmates | Primary published capacity for the regional jail serving Kiowa detainees. |
| Kiowa-only jail count | Not published | Do not assign the whole Bent population to Kiowa County. |
Bent County Jail Lookup
The correct online lookup for this regional jail is the Bent County Jail inmate-info page. That page links a mobile-friendly inmate feed at inmateinfo.net. On June 1, 2026, the official page stated that the inmate-info feed was experiencing technical difficulty, so the live search fields and sample profile could not be verified. For Kiowa County users, the phone fallback is essential because an outage or missing online result is not proof of release.
- Open Bent County Jail's inmate-info page and use the mobile-friendly feed if it is available.
- Search with the person's name and any booking details the feed allows.
- Confirm that the holding facility is Bent County Jail, especially if the person was arrested in Kiowa County.
- Call 719-456-1363 if the feed is down, the name does not appear, or release status must be confirmed.
- Use the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office for Kiowa arrest or incident reports, not for jail service rules.
Sentenced state-prison custody does not stay in the Bent County Jail roster path. Once a Kiowa County case results in a prison sentence and transfer, use the CDOC Offender Search. Federal custody uses the BOP Inmate Locator, and immigration custody uses the ICE Online Detainee Locator System.

Bent County Jail uses HomeWAV for video visitation. Visitors must create a HomeWAV account, and the person creating the account must be over 18. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult with a valid HomeWAV account. Visitor and inmate must use their own credentials, and shared visits are not allowed. Visits are subject to recording and monitoring, and rule violations may lead to restrictions or loss of privileges.
On-site visits are video visits through HomeWAV equipment. They are limited to 15 minutes per inmate per week, must be scheduled 24 hours in advance, and are pending visitor approval. Bent County Jail publishes no on-site weekend schedule and says the jail is closed for visitation on national holidays. Remote HomeWAV access may be available through the vendor, but the Bent page did not publish a specific remote schedule.

Bent County Jail Mail and Money
Bent County Jail uses MailGuard for regular inmate mail. Regular mail is scanned and made available through inmate kiosks. The regular-mail address is Bent County Jail, PMB 39193, inmate name, P.O. Box 1042, San Antonio, TX. The jail says the inmate name and ID number must be clearly printed. Legal, court, medical, religious, and educational packages go directly to Bent County Sheriff's Office, 11100 CR GG.5, Las Animas, CO 81054, and the jail should be called before sending medical, religious, or educational packages.
For money, Bent County Jail uses a lobby kiosk and Access Corrections. Inmates can order commissary weekly, with orders due Sunday evening. Money orders and checks are no longer accepted through the mail. Lobby kiosk deposits are available Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM. Access Corrections accepts website or phone deposits at 1-866-345-1884 with a credit or debit card, and Bent Jail says deposits post within the hour.
The manifest image from the Bent County Jail inmate-finances page documents the deposit methods and commissary timing used for the facility.
Those finance rules are facility rules, so they apply to Kiowa County detainees only while the person is held at Bent County Jail.

Bent County Jail Booking
Booking at Bent County Jail is the jail intake step after an arrest or transfer. For a Kiowa County arrest, the local law-enforcement record may begin in Kiowa County, while the physical jail record is created at the holding jail. Intake can include identity checks, legal authority to hold, fingerprints, property inventory, a booking photo, medical or mental-health screening, and classification. Bent County Jail publishes the broad housing range from minimum to maximum/segregation, but no detailed public intake handbook or exact new-booking posting time was found.
Bond and release are case-specific. Bent County Jail's bonding page explains that some inmates can bond out after bail is set, while others must first appear before a judge. Colorado bond rules under C.R.S. 16-4-102 are summarized on the Bent page, including limits on extra fees required to secure release on money bond. Online credit-card bond is handled through Access Corrections and requires inmate name, date of birth, case number, and the full bond amount.
Bent County Jail Conditions
Bent County Jail publishes user-facing rules for visitation, mail, inmate finances, phone/video, and bonding. It does not publish a detailed public program handbook in the reviewed pages. No public GED, vocational, substance-abuse, work-release, grievance, medical, or mental-health services page was located during research. For medical, mental-health, religious, education, grievance, or package questions, call the jail because the public website does not provide a full policy set.
Colorado county jails are subject to the state's jail-standards framework. The General Assembly publishes Standards for Colorado Jails, and C.R.S. 2-3-1901.5 and 2-3-1902 address jail standards and the Colorado Jail Standards Commission. Those standards provide statewide context for classification, housing, safety, discipline, medical care, sanitation, visitation, mail, access to courts, and emergency operations, but they do not replace Bent County Jail's facility-specific instructions.
Bent County Jail Custody Limits
Bent County Jail is not the Colorado Department of Corrections, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, or ICE. It may hold county-jail detainees, partner-agency detainees, CDOC backlog inmates, and Colorado Parole cases as published by the jail, but long-term state-prison custody is searched through CDOC after transfer. Prison visits, prison mail, and prison money use CDOC rules, not HomeWAV, MailGuard, or Access Corrections jail rules.
Federal and immigration custody are also separate. No official evidence located in the research showed a U.S. Marshals Service contract at Bent County Jail for Kiowa County federal defendants. BOP search applies to people in BOP custody from 1982 to present, and ICE ODLS applies to immigration detention. Those federal locators are not public mugshot galleries and do not replace a call to Bent County Jail for a recent Kiowa County booking.
